Vrchotovy Janovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Vrchotovy Janovice Chateau originated as an original stone castle belonging to the Lords of Janovice and is situated in a landscaped park. In Vrchotovy Janovice, this combines the history of the chateau, the history of sacred architecture, and exhibitions with specific historical collections.

History and Culture

Public guided tours of Vrchotovy Janovice Chateau are offered during opening hours without prior registration. The Church of St Martin is of Romanesque origin and dates from the end of the 12th century. On both sides of the presbytery, five tomb slabs made of red marble are built into the walls.

The exhibition “Společnost v Čechách 19. století a Rilke, Kraus a Vrchotovy Janovice” includes hundreds of original objects, including paintings, clothing, furniture, and toys, and presents historical evidence in a contemporary interior. The exhibition “České zvonařství” is housed in the authentic setting of a former water fortress. It presents a significant part of the National Museum’s historic bell collection, which comprises more than 150 items.

Nature and Trails

The chateau park in Vrchotovy Janovice covers 16.5 hectares. From April to October, it is open daily from 08:00 to 19:00; from November to March, it is open daily from 08:00 to 16:30.

The educational trail Po stopách Sidonie Nádherné connects Vrchotovy Janovice with nearby Olbramovice. It has seven stops and is approximately 8.3 kilometres long. The information boards along the educational trail cover the family of the last noble owner of the chateau, Baroness Sidonie Nádherná z Borutína (1885–1950), as well as her notable friends from European cultural life, the history of the region, and natural attractions.
