Nature and Active Routes

In the eastern part of Krkonoše National Park, 65 % of the park area within the region lies in this area; it encompasses territory in 16 municipalities.

Krkonoše offers around 800 kilometres of marked summer and winter hiking trails, as well as approximately 500 kilometres of maintained cross-country ski trails. Several hundred plant and animal species live along the Orlice and in its immediate surroundings, including around 120 protected species.

Sněžka rises to 1,603 metres and is the highest mountain in the Czech Republic. Visitors can reach the summit via several routes or by cable car.

The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks form a significant sandstone rock city with narrow gorges, high rock towers and caves.

Getting Around the Region

Adršpach railway station is located directly in front of the entrance to the rock park. Cycle paths lead directly to the Adršpach Rocks, and there is bicycle storage near the entrance. One of the routes is suitable for children and can be shortened by taking the train back from Teplice.

The Cyklookruh Rozkoš is approximately 19 kilometres long and connects municipalities around the Rozkoš Reservoir. The circular route includes rest areas, shelters, service stations, bicycle racks and charging stations for e-bikes.

Regional tourist and cycle-tourist services supplement the buses and trains operating year-round. They connect visitors with natural, historic and lesser-known destinations in the Hradec Králové Region.

Hradec Králové can be reached from Prague by bus or train in approximately 90 to 120 minutes. The Hradec Králové city forests offer dozens of kilometres of paths for walkers and cyclists, as well as educational trails and rest pavilions.

More than 400 kilometres of official cycling routes are designated in Krkonoše National Park. In the Orlické Mountains, hiking and cycling routes run along the main ridge, including the Jirásek Trail, which combines natural scenery with military history.

The tour of the observation towers begins in Nový Hrádek and ends in Deštné; a bus connection back is possible.

Culture and Regional History

In the historic centre of Hradec Králové stand the White Tower and the Gothic Church of the Holy Spirit; the city is also home to architecture associated with Josef Gočár. Hradec Králové serves as a regional cultural centre with Rock for People, a jazz festival and exhibitions.

Veselý Kopec is an open-air museum featuring traditional folk architecture, historic houses, mills and demonstrations of old crafts.

The Czech-Polish Ridge Trail passes through an area associated with historic events and includes religious and military monuments. Podorlicko is described as an area with picturesque towns, historic monuments and traditional craft production.

Broumov Monastery is described as a Baroque masterpiece; visitors can relax there, stay overnight in monastic cells or refresh themselves in the local bistro and restaurant.

The 35 kilometre-long Krkonoše Beer Trail combines mountain hiking with tastings at local microbreweries.

Golf is available in the region at facilities such as Grund Resort GOLF&SKI, Grosshof Golf Club and the Hrádek u Nechanic course. The latter is located in the surroundings of an English castle park.

The Hradec Králové Region combines rock cities, historic sights, cultural festivals and spa towns, thereby offering a wide range of attractions for visitors. At the summit of Sněžka are the Chapel of St Lawrence and the Anežka Post Office, described as the highest building in the Czech Republic.

Safari Park Dvůr Králové offers drives among freely roaming African animals, as well as accommodation above the animals.

Regional specialities include Krkonoše kyselo, a sauerkraut and potato soup, and Krkonošské trubičky, which are filled with nuts and honey. Other specialities include Trutnov gingerbread, Krkonoše sausages and East Bohemian bramborák, seasoned with garlic and marjoram.
