The Adršpašsko–Teplické Rocks are described as the largest and wildest rock city in Central Europe. To help visitors get oriented in Náchod District, there are also nature trails, historic sites, cycling routes, and seasonal information.
Nature
Babiččino údolí preserves a harmonious cultural landscape with remnants of natural vegetation, as well as part of the château grounds associated with Božena Němcová’s Babička. The Babiččino údolí educational trail is more than seven kilometres long and has 25 stops.
At 773 metres, Božanovský Špičák is the highest peak of the Broumovské stěny, where a marked circular trail runs. Near Hvězda in the Broumovské stěny stands the Baroque Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, built according to a design by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer.
Culture and History
Tours of Ratibořice Château are guided and last approximately 45 minutes. Foreign-language texts are available, and the exhibition on the ground floor is accessible. The Bathildina Trail connects the château grounds at Ratibořice with Babiččino údolí.
Klášter Broumov was rebuilt into its present Baroque form in the 17th century. The medieval monastic scriptorium there offers interactive tours. The garden of Klášter Broumov is open to the public free of charge.
The fortification system at Dobrošov comprises three completed blockhouses and 56 additional objects. The château garden in Nové Město nad Metují is reminiscent of Italian Baroque gardens and contains Art Nouveau elements.
Cycling
Cycling route 4036 runs mainly along paved farm and forest roads; some sections follow Class III roads. The regional cycling network is marked in the terrain and includes information boards and rest areas. The 31-kilometre Dolní Metuje cycling route connects Josefov, Peklo, and Náchod.
Getting There and Orientation
The railway station is located directly in front of the entrance to the Adršpašské skály. A stop is approximately 250 metres from the entrance. Klášter Broumov is located near bus and train stops.
Seasons
The Adršpach rock city is open year-round; the winter sightseeing route is maintained as far as the Great Waterfall. In winter, the paths in the Broumovské stěny and on Ostaš are not maintained, and access is at your own risk.
