Černčice: Hotels and Accommodation

Černčice is located in the foothills of the Orlické hory at an elevation of about 300 metres above sea level. The town has good rail and bus connections with the surrounding area and destinations farther afield.

Culture and History

The Church of St James is located in the western part of Černčice. It was built in the Gothic style; the church contains a tin baptismal font on a tripod dating from 1585. The fully enclosed cemetery of the Church of St James can be accessed via the open area in front of the Černčická věž.

The Černčická věž is 25 metres high and has five above-ground floors. It was built in 1613 in the Renaissance style and has a newly constructed viewing walkway. North of the church, the overgrown remains of the Černčická tvrz stand on elevated ground. The site of the former Černčická tvrz and its surroundings are protected as a heritage site; the first written mention of the fortress dates from 1405.

There are also concrete finds relating to the early history of the town: surface surveys in Černčice uncovered more than 70 artefacts attributed to the Gravettian. This makes the find complex the largest Gravettian complex in East Bohemia. In addition, the presence of the earliest farmers in the Neolithic period (New Stone Age) is documented in Černčice for the period from 5500 to 4200 BC.
