Schömitz is home to Šemnická skála, a striking geological feature: the phonolite hill has unusually shaped rocks and other geomorphological formations.
Nature
Climbing is prohibited throughout the Šemnická skála natural monument.
In the bed of the Ohře River below Karlovy Vary, quartzite and granite blocks form the “Kamenné stádo”. Swirling water has carved large potholes into these blocks; they are particularly well developed in the rapids between Muzikov and Dubina.
Skalky skřítků, located in the municipality of Šemnice, comprises pseudokarst cavities formed in volcanic breccia and is freely accessible.
Water and cycling
Šemnice is a suitable starting point for paddlers travelling in groups by boat on the Ohře.
The local cycle route 2249 is classified as moderately difficult and leads through Dubina, Šemnice u Mostu and Pulovice.
History
The stone chapel of Šemnice was built in 1826 at a crossroads on the western edge of Šemnice. Today, only the foundation remains of the surrounding masonry; they are completely overgrown with dense vegetation.
