Untersandau: Hotels and Accommodation
Untersandau (Dolní Žandov) was first mentioned in documents in 1197 and was granted town status between 1261 and 1278.
History and Culture
Another historical trace is Borschengrýn Castle. It was built after 1374, conquered and destroyed in 1452.
The Gahmühle watermill is located in Salajna. It was established in the 17th century; its present form, with half-timbered gables, dates from the second half of the 18th century. The mill is considered an important example of Cheb folk architecture.
Salajna is a village conservation area with scattered Cheb farmsteads and preserved half-timbered buildings. Most of the oldest houses date from the late 18th or early 19th century. The annual raising and felling of the maypole is one of the traditional customs in Dolní Žandov, Salajna and Podlesí.
The restored chapel continues to serve the pilgrimage tradition.
Landscape and Cycle Path
The northeastern part of the Dolní Žandov municipal area extends into the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area; the districts of Podlesí and Úbočí are located there.
National Cycle Route No. 36, the Český les Magistrale, reaches Dolní Žandov at the junction near the railway station and then continues along the stream to Salajna.
Surroundings
The Center of Europe monument is located in the vicinity of Dolní Žandov. Mount Lysina, Streicher Rang and Mount Pfaffenbühl are also located nearby. In the wider regional surroundings are Mount Podhorni vrch and the Church of St. Michael in Bad Brambach.
