Pechöfen: Hotels and accommodations
Pechöfen is located amid unspoiled nature in an extensive clearing on the northern slope of Hamerský vrch. Slightly more than half of Smolné Pece's area is forested. Smolné Pece is a popular recreational area and offers a pleasant setting for relaxation and excursions in the surrounding area. Historically, the place was known by the German name Pechöfen.
Landscape and Geology
The Smolné Pece geological locality is located in a forest 0.5 km south of the shop in the village center. It includes above-ground extraction sites and overgrown spoil heaps from pegmatite mining. The locality exposes an outcrop of the largest pegmatite body found to date in the Nejdek Massif.
History and Local Life
Historic pitch ovens were used either to refine raw resins by melting them in special ovens, or resin was produced as a by-product of charcoal production in charcoal kilns. The presumed historical predecessors of Smolné Pece included huts used by resin producers; resin-rich wood from spruce and other conifers was an important prerequisite for establishing pitch ovens. The municipality regularly organizes cultural and social events, including the erection of the maypole in connection with the burning of the witches.
Activities on Site
In the community hall, you can play table tennis for CZK 50 per hour. In front of the municipal office there is a children's playground with play equipment, and the municipal office building houses a local pub. Nohejbal is played predominantly on the sports field in Smolné Pece.
