Friedstein: Hotels and Accommodations

Friedstein draws attention to Frýdštejn Castle, whose history, sacred buildings, and landscape are closely interconnected. The place combines preserved evidence from the Middle Ages and the region’s past with paths through the surrounding area.

Culture and History

The best-preserved part of Frýdštejn Castle is a cylindrical tower 15 meters high and 9 meters wide. The castle was probably founded by the Bibrštejn family in the second half of the 14th century. After the surviving masonry had been fortified, it was opened to the public in the 1990s.

The local sacred architecture includes the chapel “Kaple Krista Trpitele,” which was added to the list of cultural monuments on May 3, 1958. It currently contains votive paintings, a statue of the infant Jesus on the altar, and a replica of the statue of the Suffering Christ. Below the castle there is also a simple sandstone chapel dating from 1823, built in the style of vernacular Baroque.

Landscape

The tower of Frýdštejn Castle offers views of the picturesque surrounding landscape of Maloskalsko. The mountains Maršovicky vrch, Černá Studnice, and Pustina are located in the vicinity of Frýdštejn. The Valdštejn Church is also located nearby.

In the wider regional area around Frýdštejn are Ještěd Mountain and the Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice Church.

Historic Routes

The former forge in Frýdštejn stands at a strategic intersection of the former carters’ road and the Saxon Road. A 12-kilometer section of the Zlatá stezka leads from Turnov via Drábovna and Frýdštejn Castle to Malá Skála.
