Nové Město pod Smrkem offers an unusual panoramic view from the observation tower on Smrk of the Krkonoše Mountains, the Jizera Mountains and the Lusatian Mountains, as well as far into Saxony and Poland.
Culture and town history
Klinger Villa is a protected cultural monument surrounded by an English garden. The Klinger Mausoleum was built in 1901 by the descendants of the founder of a textile company and was declared a cultural monument in 1993. Its restored interior can be visited by prior arrangement.
The Catholic church in Nové Město pod Smrkem is an important cultural monument. The town was founded in 1584 in connection with tin mining and the extraction of other non-ferrous metals in the surrounding area.
The Nové Město pod Smrkem Town Museum features permanent exhibitions on the nature and attractions of the Frýdlantský výběžek area, as well as on the history of Nové Město pod Smrkem. It is located on the first floor of a building shared with the town library.
Nature and spas
The springs of Novoměstská kyselka are located on the left bank of the Ztracený potok in a valley between Měděnec and Sviňský vrch.
The town's protected Art Nouveau spa building has a swimming pool, a hot tub and a sauna. The Art Nouveau spa building in Nové Město pod Smrkem underwent extensive renovation in 2005.
Mountain biking on Smrk
Singltrek pod Smrkem is a network of narrow singletrack trails for mountain bikes that winds through wooded slopes. The trail network offers mountain biking routes for riders of all ability levels.
The Singltrek Centrum in Nové Město pod Smrkem is one of three starting points for the Singltrek pod Smrkem trail network. The non-profit organization Singltrek pod Smrkem manages and maintains the trail network and provides information about possible closures and the current condition of the trails.
The observation tower on Smrk is freely accessible year-round.
Hiking in the footsteps of mining
The NovomÄ›stské dolovánà route starts and ends at MÃrové námÄ›stà in Nové MÄ›sto pod Smrkem. The hike leads through extensive forests and birch groves and conveys the rich history of local mining.
