Studenec: Hotels and Accommodation

Studenec and Zálesní Lhota are foothill villages on the slopes of Stráž, a 630 m-high melaphyre hill in the foothills of the Krkonoše Mountains. In this landscape, architectural and textile history, nature, sports and recurring local events come together.

Culture and History

The Neo-Romanesque Church of St John the Baptist in Studenec was built between 1866 and 1868. Next to the church stands a pseudo-Renaissance château dating from 1883. Traditional timber-framed houses have been preserved mainly in Dolení konec.

The area’s textile history is also part of its character. Domestic textile production in the 19th century earned Studenec the nickname “Village of Weavers”. The Fejfar & Mládek weaving mill was founded in 1911 and developed into one of the most important textile companies in pre-war Czechoslovakia.

Landscape and Nature

The school grounds in the centre of Studenec are home to a short but comprehensive educational trail with an arboretum. It introduces visitors to the local living and non-living nature. Studenecký lom quarry is an important geological site.

Events and Sports

The village events calendar includes several traditional dates. Posvícenský koláč is a cross-country race below Strážník held during Studenec’s harvest festival in mid-September. The race has already been held almost fifty times and attracts hundreds of participants every year. Studenecké míle is a recurring gathering of historic motor vehicles on the last Saturday in May; participants drive a route through the Podkrkonoší and the Krkonoše Mountains.

The pilgrimage in Studenec is celebrated at the end of June. Footballers from the sports club traditionally organise the sports programme and an evening entertainment event. The Studenec Volunteer Fire Brigade also organises an annual firefighters’ ball. Běh Vítězství is a cross-country race in Studenec organised by Tělocvičná jednota Sokol Studenec.

The sports fields and facilities around the Sokolovna in Studenec are open to the public. In winter, a 1 km-long groomed cross-country ski trail with evening lighting runs directly next to the Sokolovna. TJ Sokol Studenec offers 50 beds in tourist accommodation.

Local Cuisine and Crafts

Obecní polévka is a traditional local event where visitors could enjoy traditional municipal soup, Krkonošské sýkory and mulled wine, as well as other dishes, and buy local handmade products.
