Stará Ves lies entirely within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. More than 80 % of the area is covered by forests.

Hiking and winter sports

In summer, Stará Ves and its surroundings are suitable for hiking. Stará Ves is also a possible starting point for the ascent to Jelení studánka. Below Anenská Huť, there is a downhill slope that can be used for alpine skiing.

The municipality of Stará Ves participates in the expansion and maintenance of cross-country ski trails. These include new routes as well as facilities with bridges and culverts; a piste groomer maintains the trails.

Culture

On Potočná Street in Stará Ves stands a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the late 18th century, which has been extensively restored. The Žďárský Potok village heritage zone in Stará Ves preserves the buildings of a Jeseníky village dating from the 17th century and includes surviving log structures from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The mountains of Soukenná, Pec, Břidličná hora and Jelení hŕbet lie in the surroundings of Stará Ves. In the wider regional area are Hrad Brníčko, a castle, and Nový Hrad, a castle ruin.
