Mezina: Hotels and Accommodation

Mezina is located in the Nízký Jeseník in a gently sloping valley extending from the Černý potok at 476 m above sea level to Venušina sopka at 665 m above sea level.

Nature

The Lávový proud u Meziny natural monument protects an exposed lava flow of Venušina sopka with well-developed columnar and spherical jointing in plagioclastic basalt with numerous olivine phenocrysts. The outcrop features basalt columns several decimetres in diameter, mostly with hexagonal and, more rarely, pentagonal cross-sections; weathering produces spherical blocks.

Venušina sopka is a 643 m-high hill rising southeast above Mezina. The small remnant of a cinder cone has been significantly affected by the extraction of cinders. The cone consists of volcanic cinders and spindle-shaped bombs and formed during a Strombolian-type eruption. Venušina sopka is a geotourist attraction and an excursion site.

A forest path from the road leads near Mezina to remarkable rock formations made of regularly shaped stones with blocky jointing.
