Krmelín Hill reaches 332 m above sea level, making it the highest point in the cadastral area of the municipality of Krmelín. The summit, with its cross, offers views of Ostrava and the Beskids.

Culture and History

The first written mention of Krmelín dates from January 9, 1447. According to the feudal entry from 1447, Krmelín’s subsequent history remained permanently connected with the history of Paskov.

The oldest stone cross in Krmelín stands on Světlovská Street next to Road I/58 and dates from 1828. The Lyčka Chapel on Proskovická Street dates from 1870. The Brož Cross is an iron cross set on a sandstone pedestal with late Neoclassical ornamentation; the back of the pedestal bears the year 1858.

Construction of the Church of St. John and Paul began in 1895. The church was completed and solemnly consecrated on July 1, 1900, by the Dean of Ostrava, Rev. Špička. Its structure is a single-nave longitudinal building with a gable roof; it also includes a prismatic tower with a pyramidal roof aligned with the axis of the façade.

Krmelín can be reached by train via the nearest railway stations in Paskov, Frýdek-Místek, or Ostrava, and has bus connections to Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek.

The 66 km-long Radhošťská Trail passes through Krmelín. It runs from Bělský les in Ostrava via Stará and Nová Bělá, Krmelín, Mošnov, Příbor, Mniší, Tichá, and Frenštát to Pustevny or Radhošť. A green-marked hiking trail also passes through Krmelín.
