Lužice U Šternberka: Hotels and Accommodation

The first written mention of Lužice dates back to 1131; at that time, the village belonged to the Olomouc Cathedral Chapter. The place name Lužice is derived from the common noun “luh,” meaning low-lying marshland on the banks of a river.

Nature

The Sitka stream flows past Lužice to the east. In its lower course, the Sitka is called the Huzovka. It forms the main axis of the local BK 38A biocorridor. South of Lužice lies the “Háječek” locality, which is suitable for hiking.

Culture

The religious folk custom known as “Klapání” is maintained in Lužice. As part of this custom, the boys from Lužice replace the ringing of bells with clattering. The annual cultural and sporting events in Lužice include “Gustavova Lužice.”

The internationally renowned wrestler Gustav Frištenský and his brother František owned an estate in Lužice until 1938; it had previously belonged to Prince Lichnštejn. Lužice also hosted another edition of the summer film festival “Letní filmové léto.”
