Vilémov: Hotels and accommodations

The Baroque Church of St. Catherine in Vilémov was built from the ground up in 1758 on the site of an earlier house of worship.

Church and Monuments

The tower of the Church of St. Catherine was rebuilt in 1908. During the reconstruction, a significantly higher onion-shaped dome with a lantern replaced the original low roof. In 2015, the original paintings and sculptures were returned to the church, wherever possible to their original locations. After years of absence, the original Stations of the Cross images also returned.

Construction of the Orthodox church in Vilémov began in 1931; it was consecrated on August 14, 1932. The penitential cross is considered the oldest monument in the municipality of Vilémov. It is estimated to be about 400 years old and bears a relief of a sword on its front.

Landscape

Vilémov is surrounded by forests on all sides. At the summit of Homola Hill stands a resting pavilion with views of Olomouc and Svatý Kopeček. There is a reservoir in the lower part of Vilémov.

Religious Life

The Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in Vilémov was consecrated on September 18, 1993, and belongs to the monasteries of the Olomouc-Brno Eparchy. Visitors can attend the evening and morning services. Each year, the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God is celebrated there with a pilgrimage service; the celebration includes a procession around the church.
