Huzová: Hotels and accommodations

Huzová combines a long local history with notable examples of sacred architecture and access to the marked hiking trails in Sovinecko Nature Park. As a result, historical traces exist alongside a landscape characterized by deep valleys, wooded slopes, and signposted routes.

History

A document issued by Bishop Zdík mentions Huzová as early as 1141, at that time under its original name Guzoue. The village was probably designated as a transit station from the beginning of settlement, on the country road from Olomouc to Wrocław. Historically, growing and processing flax, as well as weaving at home, were important sources of income for the population of Huzová.

Church and sculptures

The Church of St. Giles in Huzová is the central sacred landmark. It contains a Romanesque core; its historic core probably dates from the 15th century. The interior is decorated with ornamental murals, colorful stained-glass windows, ornate altars, and a Neoclassical pulpit. On the exterior, there is a glazed niche with a biblical depiction.

In front of the church stands a stone cross dating from 1827. A statue of Saint Joseph from the first quarter of the 19th century stands by the cemetery wall. On the outskirts of Huzová, there is also a Marian column, an unusually composed sculpture from 1710 created by a folk artist.

Nature and hiking trails

Huzová is an access point with bus connections to the marked hiking trails in Sovinecko Nature Park. The nature park is characterized by deep valleys and distinctive slopes covered with dense forests.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Huzová via Pod Líchou and the Teplička valley to Sovinec Castle. Another hiking route runs from Huzová through the Teplička valley along the Teplička River and continues via Pod Karlovcem to the small settlement of Pasecký Žleb. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads eastward from Huzová to the 706-meter-high summit of Pomezí and onward toward the 800-meter-high summit of Slunečná.

Historical landmarks in the surrounding area

On the outskirts of Veveří stands a large building, the so-called rychta, dating from the late 18th century. The ruins of the Chapel of Saint Jerome are also located in Veveří. They are surrounded by a former cemetery and an enclosing wall and are among the few surviving remains of the village of Veveří, which was abandoned after the Second World War.

In Huzová, the Dolní mlýn is the only surviving one of three mills built one after another.
