Bor u Skutče is a popular starting point for excursions into the Maštale Nature Reserve. The name Toulovcovy Maštale comes from a legend about the robber knight Toulovec, who hid there with his followers during troubled times.
Nature and Landscape
Rare animal and plant species can be found in the Maštale Nature Reserve, including fire salamanders, ferns and mosses. Bor u Skutče is home to the Kolumbovo vejce rock formation, Dudychova jeskyně Cave and Petrovna rock formation.
In the wider regional surroundings of Bor u Skutče, the Maštale Nature Reserve protects characteristic rock formations consisting predominantly of Cenomanian sandstones, as well as the cultural and relict pine forests growing on them.
Paths and Educational Trails
The Maštale Nature Reserve is criss-crossed by numerous marked hiking trails and numerous cycling routes. The freely accessible educational trail “Suchou nohou mezi vodou” winds between small bodies of water; informative panels with interactive games stand on the banks of the ponds.
There is a natural swimming pool with refreshments on the outskirts of Bor u Skutče. An educational trail leads from the natural swimming pool on the outskirts to the rescue station and the Pasíčka Eco Centre. Wildlife can be viewed there; Brána do pravěku, Bor u Skutče 47, 539 44 Proseč, is also located at these facilities.
A green-marked hiking route leads from Bor u Skutče through rock crevices to Toulovcovy Maštale. The route passes the Džberka spring. From Vranice, a red-marked hiking route leads along a hollow way past Dudychova jeskyně to Bor u Skutče.
