České Lhotice: Hotels and Accommodations

České Lhotice combines a clearly tangible historical site with a landscape of fields, forests, and meadows: the České Lhotice archaeological site is an archaeological monument reserve, and the municipality’s settlements lie within the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area.

History

In the 2nd to 1st century BC, a Celtic oppidum was established northwest of the present-day Hradiště district on a spur high above a meander of the Chrudimka. It covered approximately 20 hectares and was heavily fortified with massive ramparts, which were constructed in up to three layers on three sides. The České Lhotice oppidum is the only Celtic oppidum in Eastern Bohemia. In the České Lhotice archaeological site, residential and economic buildings, as well as wells, hearths, and terraces, have been documented. Access to the České Lhotice oppidum area is from the east, where fortifications with two ditches are visible.

Boika Lookout Tower

The Boika Lookout Tower is 14.5 meters high, and its viewing platform is located at a height of 11 meters. The Boika Lookout Tower is accessible year-round and free of charge. It includes a covered, wheelchair-accessible seating area with a table and benches.

Landscape and Trails

Cycle Route No. 4114 passes through the České Lhotice area. The Keltská stezka Železnými horami trail leads through sites of the original Celtic settlement around Hradiště and Nasavrky. The 3-meter-high Hradišťský Waterfall is located on a tributary of the Chrudimka.

Activities and Localities

České Lhotice has a riding facility for children and adults that offers horseback rides through the center of the Celtic settlement. The Vedralka district lies at an elevation of approximately 530 meters and is known for swimming in a natural pond fed by streams from the surrounding forests.
