Mrákotín: Hotels and Accommodation

Mrákotín is home to a geological locality in the eastern part of the Železné hory National Geopark. Its graptolite fauna enables precise dating to the Silurian, more specifically to the Llandovery.

Nature

Mrákotín lies in a gentle valley between Hlinsko and Skuteč. The Mrákotínský stream flows through the village; it rises in the Ranský forests.

The geological locality features small rock outcrops and abundant rock debris in rocks of the so-called Mrákotín Formation of the Hlinecko Zone. It consists of several outcrops in wooded areas and fields southwest of Mrákotín, in the section between the municipality and the telecommunications transmitter.

The geological locality can be reached by car without restrictions; there is no driving ban, and the access point is within 250 metres.

Two information boards were installed in the village square in the centre of Mrákotín as part of the Železné hory – GVO project.

Culture

The first surviving written mention of Mrákotín dates from 1456. The “Obnovená kniha rychty Mrákotínské”, also known as the “gruntovnice”, preserved in the state archive in Zámrsk, bears the date 1695.

The Chapel of Saint Isidore is dedicated to Saint Isidore of Madrid, the patron saint of farmers and a good harvest. The Mrákotín bell tower was renovated in 2006. The chapel was ceremonially consecrated on 20 September 2014. From Mrákotín, it can be reached in the direction of Oldřetice and then along a field path.

Events

Country Den is being held for the fifth time at the sports field in Mrákotín. Country Den featured an extensive programme of music, dancing and competitions for children and adults.
