Žichlínek: Hotels and Accommodations

Žichlínek combines historical monuments with the landscape of the Žichlínek dry polder. The village is characterized by a Baroque listed church, a protected small-leaved lime tree and several historic sculptures. The meandering Moravská Sázava, wetlands and a diverse range of native wildlife and plant life also shape the landscape around the dry polder.

Culture and History

The Baroque Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist in Žichlínek was built between 1718 and 1725 and is a listed cultural heritage monument. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1755 stands in front of the church. Near the road to Rychnov, there is also a sculptural group depicting the Holy Trinity, dating from 1778. Žichlínek is also home to a protected small-leaved lime tree with a trunk circumference of 6.7 meters.

The history of the village includes the former Krotenful water castle, which stood in the southern part of the cadastral area of Žichlínek. Krotenful was a two-part water castle whose sections were separated by wide moats. It was completely destroyed in 1842 during the construction of the railway embankment for the Olomouc–Prague railway line; no remains are visible today.

Nature

The Žichlínek dry polder is most easily reached via the road between Žichlínek and Rychnov na Moravě. Its embankment offers a walking route of over 1.5 kilometers. A cycle path also runs along it, leading to Moravská Třebová or Lanškroun.

The Moravská Sázava meanders through the Žichlínek dry polder area, forming ponds, pools and wetlands. Ornithologists from across the country observe oystercatchers in this area; the peregrine falcon and Ural owl have also returned here, among other species. Native plants, animals and birds can also be found there.
