Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Ústí nad Orlicí District can then continue searching for accommodation. The Orlické Mountains extend into the eastern part of the district: Suchý vrch reaches 995 m, and Buková hora 958 m. The northeastern part is formed primarily by the massif of Králický Sněžník.

Nature and Landscape

The district lies on the European main watershed. Its most important rivers include the Tichá Orlice, Divoká Orlice, Třebovka and Moravská Sázava. The Pastviny Reservoir is the largest body of water in the district and covers 110 hectares; pedal boating, boating, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing are possible there. Forests cover 31.9% of the district – the highest proportion among the districts of the Pardubický kraj. The central and northern foothill and upland areas without larger settlements are among the least anthropogenically influenced areas of the Pardubický kraj.

The climate varies considerably with altitude. Vysokomýtsko is the warmest and driest area, while Lanškrounsko is cooler and wetter. Králicko and the higher-elevation Žambersko are among the coldest and wettest areas within the Pardubický kraj.

Culture and History

Litice Castle stands on a hill in a bend of the Divoká Orlice, surrounded by extensive forests. Under Jiří of Poděbrady, it was extensively rebuilt by 1468 and developed into one of Bohemia’s most important fortresses in the 15th century.

The Králíky Municipal Museum documents the history of Králicko and displays collections of nativity scenes, minerals, insects, birds and mammals. Exhibitions, lectures and concerts are also held there; the museum also includes an information centre.

The military history trail in Králíky connects the Hůrka artillery fortress, the Králíky Military Museum, a lookout point and the K-S 14 infantry bunker. The Králíky Military Museum can be reached by train to Prostřední Lipka station; from there, an approximately 300 m long footpath continues.

The ruins of Lanšperk Castle lie on a wooded hill above the Tichá Orlice valley. It was probably founded in the middle of the 13th century.

Crafts and Museums

The Letohrad Craft Museum presents historic food-production trades, including milling, baking, cheese-making, butter-making, soda-water production and beekeeping. A moving display with 25 carved craftsmen illustrates 15 trades. More than 100 historic nativity scenes are also exhibited there; nearly half of them were made by carvers from Králicko.

Trails and Activities

The Stations of the Cross beyond the Tichá Orlice follows a forest path towards Andrlův chlum and comprises 14 stations. Stations I to XI are small chapels, while stations XII to XIV are larger chapels. Station XIII is the Calvary Chapel, and station XIV is the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. A 7 km hiking route from Ústí nad Orlicí leads along this Stations of the Cross route to the Andrlův chlum lookout point.

In the regional area of Orlicko-Třebovsko, cycling, inline skating, canoeing, activities in a high-ropes park and the use of a climbing wall are available. The Choceň–Ústí nad Orlicí–Letohrad cycle path is documented in this area. The Geological and Water Museum in Nature also has an educational station at the Klopotský spring.
