Hradec Nad Svitavou: Hotels and Accommodations

Hradec nad Svitavou is a place whose history can be read in its buildings and whose natural environment stands out through specific features. This picture is complemented by pathways and the railway, which to this day visibly connects the town with its surroundings.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Catherine is originally Gothic and was rebuilt after fires in 1673 and 1710. Its tower has preserved its medieval character. The church was originally fortified and protected both the village and a trade route that crossed the Svitava River near the church.

In the southern part of Hradec nad Svitavou stands the Trinity Column from 1725. It is considered an exceptional work featuring reliefs from the same year. Also preserved is a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which was renovated in 1870.

Hradec nad Svitavou is also associated with Father Engelmar Unzeitig, a clergyman born there who was beatified in Würzburg on September 24, 2016. Another distinctive structure is the railway viaduct: the six-arch structure was built between 1847 and 1849.

Nature

The Hradecké rybníčky wetlands are considered the most valuable natural area in the municipality of Hradec nad Svitavou. Forty protected animal species have been recorded there, including nine amphibian species.

Paths and Railway

A yellow hiking trail leads through the cadastral area of Hradec nad Svitavou toward Horecký hřbet. In the southern part of the town, a facility for locals and tourists was built in 2022, with covered benches and tables as well as a small educational trail.

Railway line 260 between Česká Třebová and Brno runs through Hradec nad Svitavou; several trains stop in the town every day.
