Chválenice: Hotels and Accommodation

Chválenice is a place whose distinctive features are particularly evident in its architecture, landscape, and traditional local characteristics.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Martin in Chválenice was built between 1747 and 1753 as a new Baroque structure, allegedly based on a design by K. I. Dientzenhofer. Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer is considered the creator of the church. With its longitudinal, richly articulated floor plan, it is a particularly remarkable Baroque building and is regarded as one of the outstanding works of rural Bohemian Baroque.

A timber-framed barn stands on the farmstead at No. 27 U Chmelíků. It is one of the few surviving examples of Chválenice’s former appearance, which was characterized by numerous timber buildings.

Landscape

Chválenice lies in a hilly landscape comprising the Švihovská vrchovina, the Radyňská vrchovina, the Úslava Valley, the Kozelské Forest District, and the nearby Brdy Hills.

At 537 m above sea level, Farská skála is the highest point in Chválenice and is surrounded by Džbánek Hill. Farská skála is also one of several nearby rock formations in the geological system of the Barrandian.

In the immediate vicinity of Chválenice are Radyně Mountain, Farský vrch Hill [Chválenice], and Dlouhá Hill [Nebílovy]. In the wider regional surroundings lies Nad Moráskem Mountain.

Nature

The more than two-hundred-year-old Niklojc hruška stands as a solitary tree in the fields near Borky above Chouzovy and has been designated a protected memorial tree since 5 October 2016. In the Na Borkách area between Chouzovy and the Chválenice cadastral area of V Babších, the protected memorial pear tree stands alone in a field; a blue-marked hiking trail runs along the field, and the distance from the road to the tree is approximately 200 metres. Historical maps show Niklojc hruška as a significant landmark.

Surroundings

In the wider regional surroundings of Chválenice lies St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral in Plzeň. Svatý Martin is also located there, a named site classified as a church.
