Městišťské rokle was first designated a nature reserve on December 9, 1994. Městiště is visited mainly by cycling tourists because of the beautiful surrounding nature.
Nature
The Městišťské rokle nature reserve protects the headwaters, peatlands, and streamside floodplain forests of the Jelenka stream and its tributaries. It serves to preserve and restore natural forests and to protect herbaceous plant communities in the treeless parts of the area.
Culture and History
Denkcherzův hamr was in operation until 1975. Axes, hoes, ploughshares, and other tools were manufactured at Denkcherzův hamr from imported iron.
Around 1554, Městiště was already marked on a map of the Výšinná trade route from Zwiesel to Klatovy. At that time, Městiště had farmsteads with associated arable land.
