In Dešenice, Kámen doteku stands to the left of the entrance to Tvrz Dešenice, next to the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in the fortress wall. The smoothly worked stone invites visitors to touch it.

Culture and History

The Muzeum šumavského pivovarnictví Dešenice is housed in the historic Tvrz Dešenice, also known as a chateau, and offers insights into the history of brewing in the Šumava region. The museum includes a reconstructed historic taproom.

In the mid-18th century, Tvrz Dešenice was thoroughly renovated in the Baroque style without eliminating its Renaissance character. A brewery was later established in the Tvrz.

The complex of Kostel sv. Mikuláše comprises the church, gravestones, an enclosing wall, a Baroque gate, and a mortuary chapel. The parish church of Kostel sv. Mikuláše in Dešenice dates from the mid-14th century.

Dešenice is one of six Czech municipalities participating in the cross-border Kámen doteku project together with the Bavarian municipalities of Eschlkam, Lam, Neukirchen b.Hl.Blut, Arrach, and Lohberg. The other Czech municipalities in this project are Chudenín, Hamry, Nýrsko, Strážov, and Všeruby.

Nature and Trails

Routes from Dešenice lead to the Městišťská rokle nature reserve. Cycle routes from Dešenice also pass through deep Šumava forests with beautiful viewpoints.

The Po stopách formanů educational trail starts at Dešenice railway station and ends there again as a circular route. It includes seven stops with information panels.
