Culture and History

The village conservation area of Kanice was designated on 22 September 1995 by Decree No. 249 of the Ministry of Culture. In the centre of the north-western part of the village, in front of House No. 18, stands the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk. The building dates from the 18th century and was added to the list of immovable cultural monuments on 3 May 1958.

Kanice Château is also registered on the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. It consists of four wings enclosing a square courtyard; the vaults in the east wing date from the Renaissance. Netřeb Castle was originally called Nový Rýzmberk.

Nature

The natural scree forest in the Netřeb Nature Reserve is notable for the occurrence of the European yew (Taxus baccata). The oldest yews in the Netřeb area are estimated to be 720 years old.

Cycling and Hiking

The Chudenice cycling circuit is approximately 55 kilometres long and passes through Kanice. A yellow-marked hiking trail also leads from Kanice to the Netřeb Nature Reserve.
