Local History and Name Origins

Pelechy was established between 1768 and 1789 in the Kout estate. Historical evidence for the place name dates from 1789, 1854, and 1895 and records the forms Pelechny, Pelechen, and Bernloch.

The neighboring settlement of Šnory, formerly called Kohlstäten in German, was depopulated and disappeared after the end of the Second World War in 1945. The historical German name Bernloch is explained as meaning “Pelech,” “cave,” or “animal den”; in the case of Pelechy, the name probably referred to a remote community hidden in the forests.

Townscape and Cultural Monuments

The former elementary school building, together with its mighty linden trees, is an important landmark and cultural monument of Pelechy. Háječek, planted by teacher Černý together with his students after the war, is also considered an adornment of the village.

Southwest of Pelechy, a chapel is designated as an architecturally valuable structure.

Paths through the Landscape

The field and forest paths in Pelechy are primarily intended for shared use in landscape management and for recreation by pedestrians and cyclists. Existing cycling routes and marked hiking trails maintained by the KČT are also designated for Pelechy.

Spálený vrch is located in the immediate vicinity of Pelechy. Čerchov, Dreiwappen, and Dachsriegel are also located in the area surrounding the village.

In the wider regional surroundings of Pelechy are the Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg and Chammünster Church, the parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
