Dolní Novosedly: Trails, Crosses and South Bohemian Peasant Baroque

Dolní Novosedly is located in the northern foothills of the Písecké hory. Part of the Písecké hory is protected as a nature park. The protected area adds a natural setting to the village that can be taken into account when planning hikes and cycling tours. The marked yellow hiking trail passes through Dolní Novosedly. The yellow hiking trail thus offers its own marked route option through the village. Dolní Novosedly is suitable as a starting point for hikes and cycling tours into the Písecké hory. The orientation around the village therefore focuses primarily on trails, the landscape and active exploration of the surrounding area.

Cycle Route 2 is 34 km long. Cycle Route 2 is moderately difficult and suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. On its return journey to Písek, Cycle Route 2 passes through Dolní Novosedly. The 34-kilometre distance and the choice between a mountain bike and a trekking bike should therefore both be taken into account for Cycle Route 2. The route length determines the scope of the tour. The moderate difficulty and suitability for mountain bikes or trekking bikes add the choice of the right bicycle to this planning. This makes it possible to plan the route in advance according to distance, difficulty and bicycle type.

There is a chapel on the village green of Dolní Novosedly. Farmstead No. 1 occupies a prominent position on the northeastern side of the village green. House No. 1 in Dolní Novosedly is a building in the typical South Bohemian peasant Baroque style dating from 1800. The former Kolářík Inn stands in the centre of Dolní Novosedly beside the road. The former Kolářík Inn is decorated with murals inside and out. The former Kolářík Inn is currently used for recreational purposes and is not open to the public. The arrangement around the irregular courtyard shapes the architectural coherence of the farmstead.

There are a total of eight memorial crosses of various designs in Dolní Novosedly. Most of the memorial crosses in Dolní Novosedly date from the 19th century. Some of the memorial crosses presumably served to mark crossroads.

Dolní Novosedly has bus connections to Písek and Záhoří. This provides two specific bus destinations to consider when planning travel to the village. At Dolní Novosedly 53, the Provazce sports and hunting shooting range has separate shotgun and rifle ranges. The Provazce shooting-range complex can be rented for private events.
