The Jan Hus Monument in Horní Kněžeklady was commissioned in connection with the planned celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of Jan Hus’s burning. Following a public fundraising campaign, construction began in 1915.

The pedestal of the Jan Hus Monument was built by the local mason Matěj Nekola based on a design by the sculptor Švec.

The Jan Hus Monument was ceremonially unveiled in 1921 after Professor Švec had returned from the legions in Russia.
