Hracholusky – Village History and Cycling Route

Hracholusky is first mentioned in a written source in 1334. This early record opens a historical view of a place whose documented development can be traced over several centuries.

The land register of the Helfenburk estate from 1580 lists 41 resident households and three millers in Hracholusky. After the Rožmberks acquired Hracholusky in 1351, the village was administered by the burgrave of Helfenburk.

The history of the mills is also closely connected with the village. The Fučíků and Balounů mills, formerly Petrášků, and the former Hamlýřů mill near the bridge over the Zlatý potok are already mentioned in the 16th century.

A little church from the 19th century dominates Hracholusky’s spacious village square. Farmhouse No. 31 in Hracholusky is a registered cultural monument dating from 1846.

No. 31 survived the great fire that struck Hracholusky in 1866; most of the village’s farmsteads date from the period afterward. The Nový mlýn mill was established in the 1870s and completed in 1880.

The village square, the cultural monument and the surviving mills thus point to different layers of the village’s history: the public centre, a single preserved building and former places of work.

The “Na Zlatý potok a hrad Osule” cycling circuit passes through Hracholusky. It is approximately 40 km long and runs mainly along existing cycle paths, local roads and Class III roads through moderately hilly terrain.

The approximate route length, types of roads and terrain provide different points of comparison when planning a day on the road, without the historical details of the village losing their individual character.

The earth mounds known as “sejpy” on the banks of the Zlatý potok are traces of medieval gold panning. This term is therefore one of the distinctive historical landscape features around the stream.
