Nature and the Villagescape

The Lhota u Dynína natural monument covers 7.25 hectares and protects waterlogged peat meadows with rare and protected woody species. It consists mainly of waterlogged meadows and the adjacent southeastern shore of Bošilec Pond; the pond lies approximately 500 m from Lhota u Dynína. A field path accessible to the public year-round provides access to the Lhota u Dynína natural monument. Black-necked grebes, greylag geese and gadwall nest along the edges of the pond within the Lhota u Dynína natural monument. Farmstead No. 11 in Lhota u Dynína has a façade with a prominent arch frieze.

History and Vernacular Architecture

The oldest written records concerning Lhota date back to the 14th century. The former village of Německá Lhota was flooded when Záblatský Pond was enlarged between 1580 and 1582. Lhota is a village with a triangular village square; it also contains farmsteads built in the vernacular Blata style. Lhotský Dvůr was rebuilt in stone by the Schwarzenbergs in 1693. A sheepfold had been added there under the Švamberks in 1613, and the entire manor farm had been destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. A wayside cross from 1905 stands on the road to Lhotský Dvůr, and another wayside cross stands on the road to Chudobinec.

Getting Around

The 66 km-long cycling route “Rožmberská vodní díla – Zelená severní cyklotrasa” runs through Záblatí, Lhota and Bošilec.
