Novosedly: Rural Baroque and Village History

Novosedly is first mentioned in a deed of donation issued by Přemysl Ottokar I in 1204. The deed made Novosedly the property of the Convent of St. George in Prague. A monument on the village square also commemorates those who fell in the First World War. The square thus preserves a concrete memorial site from more recent history alongside the medieval reference documented in writing. The deed and the monument therefore point to two clearly separate periods in the history of the village.

The architectural character includes two farmsteads with Rural Baroque features. Farmstead No. 21 dates from 1850. It has two gables and an ornate balustrade. No. 30 dates from the mid-19th century and has a single gable complemented by volutes and an Eye of God motif. At No. 21, the two gables and the balustrade define the appearance, while at No. 30, the gable, volutes, and Eye of God motif come together. The two Rural Baroque farmsteads thus differ above all in the forms of their gables and decorative elements.

Novosedly lies on the Novosedelský stream. Remnants of gold washing extend as far as Novosedly. The watercourse and traces of this historic activity are distinctive landscape features of the village in their own right. Route 2 “Naučnou stezkou” also passes through Novosedly. The watercourse, remnants of gold washing, and route thus stand alongside one another as distinct components of the village’s landscape and route connections.

For a tour along a route, current trail conditions and transport times should be checked before arrival. This applies particularly when the day’s schedule depends on a specific route or on additional means of transport. The Class II and Class III roads connect Novosedly satisfactorily with the surrounding area. They establish the stated road connection to the immediate surroundings without implying any specific travel time or distance. Routes and means of transport require different checks when planning a trip: trail conditions concern the route, whereas transport times concern the timing of arrival.

Village life includes a kindergarten and a one-class school. There is a library for reading. A playground with a children’s area supplements the facilities mentioned for play. There is also a shop and a restaurant with a function room. The individual offerings have clearly different functions: education, reading, play, shopping, and dining are each represented by a separate facility. The kindergarten and school belong to the education sector, while the library and playground serve other purposes in the village. The shop and restaurant with a function room supplement this public infrastructure with shopping and dining.

Opening hours of facilities may change and should be checked before visiting. For a route or stay involving a restaurant visit, it is also advisable to check current opening times and, where applicable, event dates for the function room. For facilities with fixed opening hours and for a function room with possible event dates, such checks are a routine part of travel preparation.
