Strážkovice lies on the eastern slope of Strážkovická hora. At 557 m, it is the highest point in the municipality of Strážkovice. In favorable weather, Strážkovická hora offers extensive views of the surrounding area and sometimes as far as the Alps.

Culture and history

The Strážkovice smithy is a technical monument on the village green. It was probably used for its original purpose until 1969. Strážkovice is also home to a stone signpost that is a valuable and authentically preserved example of the small road facilities that supplemented the expanding road networks in the 19th century.

Due to its historic buildings on the elevation, Strážkovice is one of the so-called “fire villages.” In these villages, residents warned of approaching troops at night by lighting fires in times of danger. The regular settlement layout with a large, spacious village green indicates that the village was founded during the High Medieval colonization in the 13th or 14th century.

The Church of St. Martin, which serves as the parish church for Strážkovice and was consecrated in 1493, is located in Střížov. Trocnov lies approximately 2 km east of Strážkovice and is a national cultural monument. The Trocnov complex features a marked circular trail with the remains of former farmsteads; Jan Žižka lived in one of them and his uncle in the other. The complex also includes a memorial with a museum exhibition on the Hussite movement.

Cycling

The “Na kole Doudlebskem a Novohradskem” cycling route passes through Strážkovice. It is 110 km long in total and divided into stages of 58 km and 52 km. The route is considered moderately difficult to challenging and is suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes.

The “K rodišti Jana Žižky z Trocnova” cycling excursion is 63.7 km long, moderately difficult, and suitable as a full-day excursion. Cycling route CT1121 passes through Strážkovice on the way from Střížov to Trocnov. The cycling route recommended for the “Stezka kovářství” educational trail is 73 km long.
