Culture and History
Only the presbytery, an old baptismal font and a stone holy-water stoup remain from the old Gothic church in Žerotice. The high altar and two side altars were made of marble and plaster in 1775 by the Znojmo sculptor Šebestián Centner; the side altars are dedicated to Saint James, Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
The parish church dedicated to Saint Martin stands in the north-eastern part of Žerotice; its park-like grounds are enclosed by a wall. The site can be accessed from the south via a staircase from the pavement through the main gate, or from the east through a side door. Easter pastries and Easter eggs are currently blessed in the church.
A small multi-storey castle building and the town of Žerotice are mentioned in 1259. The fortress is explicitly documented in 1358, was later altered by Renaissance renovations, and was conquered and burned down by Swedish troops in 1643. The ruins of Žerotice Castle lie on the southern edge of the village. The castle ruins preserve a Renaissance vaulted room, masonry reaching the height of the first floor, buttresses, the remains of a prismatic tower and a heavily backfilled, originally walled moat.
The granary in Žerotice is a three-storey building with characteristically curved gables and unusual groups of three openings in the shape of a compressed figure eight. The Žerotice parish house was completed in 1832 and has a sundial on its façade.
Nature
The Jevišovka River, which flows through the cadastral area of Žerotice, is included in the Natura 2000 network of protected areas.
Festivals and Wine
The Svatomartinské posvÃcenÃ, the Saint Martin's feast, is scheduled to take place in Žerotice on 14 and 15 November 2026. The Saint Martin's feast currently includes entertainment on Saturday aimed primarily at young people. On Sunday, a procession through the town followed by ZavádÄ›nà is also currently held.
The XXV Wine Tasting is scheduled to take place in Žerotice on 21 March 2026. The wine enthusiasts of Žerotice regularly display their wine samples at the end of April. Žerotice also maintains a traditional Masopust masquerade procession.
