Krhov: Hotels and Accommodation

Krhov lies at the northern foot of Malý Chlum, which is listed as being 488 m above sea level. Forests extend south and east of the village. Krhov also lies on the right bank of the Úmoří stream.

Culture and History

The fortified archaeological site of Krhov “Malý Chlum” lies on the summit of the Malý Chlum mesa and is most easily accessed from the settlement of Huť Sv. Antonie, which lies approximately 500 m southeast below the foot of Malý Chlum. The fortified Malý Chlum site has an elongated oval ground plan with axes measuring 261 m in a northeast–southwest direction and 70 m in a northwest–southeast direction. Originally, the Malý Chlum archaeological site covered an area of 1.5 ha.

Krhov was founded as a mining settlement. The first written reference to the village dates from 1409. Iron ore was mined in the vicinity of Krhov from the 15th century onward; in later years, slate and coal were also mined there.

West of Krhov, the remains of the earth embankment of the unfinished Vienna–Wrocław motorway can be seen. A Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands on the outskirts of the village. The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus dates from 1933.

Routes

A signposted local cycling route passes through Krhov. Cycling Route 5201 from Černá Hora to Chrudichromy runs via Bořitov, Huť Sv. Antonie, and Krhov. The Malý and Velký Chlum educational trail was ceremonially opened on April 14, 2013.
