Dolní Poustevna: Hotels and Accommodation
The first mention of the place where the village of Dolní Poustevna was later established dates back to 1241. This long history is reflected in several buildings and historical traces.
Culture and History
Near the border crossing stands a Baroque Pietà dating from 1748. It is listed in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. The Church of the Archangel Michael was built in the pseudo-Gothic style in 1854–1855, while the Church of the Virgin Mary dates from 1854.
The former Protestant church was completely reconstructed in 2009 and now serves as the Centrum setkávání, with a concert and theatre hall as well as an observation tower. The Centrum setkávání hosts exhibitions, lectures and seminars.
Dolní Poustevna was known throughout northern Bohemia and Saxony for its handmade paper mill, which operated from 1579 to 1906. The town was also known in these areas for the production of artificial flowers.
Nature
The area around Dolní Poustevna is a gently rolling landscape with elevation differences of no more than 300 m. There are no pronounced landscape features, while nature and changing forest stands have been preserved.
Poustevník (Špičák) is a 454 m-high basalt hill between Horní Poustevna and Nová Víska. Interesting rock formations lie on its slopes, where columnar jointing of the basalt can be seen in places.
Hiking and Cycling
The traditional Severní stopou hiking event always takes place in Dolní Poustevna in mid-May. Hiking routes from 5 to 25 km are offered during the event.
Cycle route No. 3043 begins at the state border in Dolní Poustevna. Three trail routes are currently open, leading to Rybářská chata.
Geographical Location
A railway line has served Dolní Poustevna since 1904.
