Horní Podluzí: Hotels and Accommodation

Horní Podluží lies as an elongated village in the valley of the Lužnička River, on the border between the landscapes of the Lužické hory and České Švýcarsko. The surroundings combine protected pond landscapes, historical traces and winter sports facilities with paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

Nature

Velký rybník lies on the western edge of Horní Podluží and is part of the European Natura 2000 network. It is a 46-hectare nature reserve and an important ornithological site where numerous migratory birds stop to rest; it includes wetlands along the shore with protected plants. The Světlík site comprises wetlands in immediate contact with the pond, including wet and waterlogged meadows as well as a transitional mire in the northern part of the pond.

The Světlík site is also a migratory bird stopover of regional importance. The crane has been recorded there as the most significant breeding bird species. The site is also home to a large population of the yellow-spotted whiteface (Leucorrhinia pectoralis).

Culture and History

The Světlík windmill is registered as an immovable cultural monument in the cadastral area of Horní Podluží. It lies approximately 1.5 km north of Horní Podluží in the Světlík district (Lichtenberg), at an elevation of 500 m and on the edge of the Světlík Nature Reserve, on the shore of the pond of the same name. The windmill can be reached via the Velký rybník–Světlík educational trail.

Even before the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution, textile production was firmly established in Horní Podluží.
