Levín: Hotels and Accommodations

Levín may be the only place in the Czech Republic with uninterrupted ceramic production that has continued for 600 years. The historic Levín ceramics of the 17th and 18th centuries featured floral motifs applied with white slip to reddish-brown shards and covered with a transparent lead glaze.

Ceramics and Crafts

House No. 10 is the last preserved pottery workshop in Levín. At Hrnčírna No. 10, visitors can tour the workshop with its historic kiln and work at the potter’s wheel. The individual ceramic workshops in Levín can be visited during fairs and events or at any time by prior telephone arrangement.

History and Architecture

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Levín is registered as an immovable cultural monument. It is a circular central-plan building; construction began in 1788, it burned down three years later, and was rebuilt in 1798.

Inside Levín’s bell tower there is an observation platform. The ground floor of Levín’s bell tower was built in 1699 from masonry taken from the castle. Of Levín Castle, the remains of a fortification wall and the remains of an unspecified square structure survive near the summit of the rocky spur. According to archaeological finds, the castle existed in the second half of the 13th century and may have disappeared in the 14th century.

Fairs and Regional Events

The Levín Český jarmark combines ceramics with demonstrations of other crafts and a cultural program. Since 2021, the Levíno event held in September has been among the events in Levín; it is dedicated to regional winemakers and refreshments.

Hiking Route to Sedlo

A 9-kilometer hiking route to Sedlo can begin directly in Levín; it initially follows the blue trail markings and then the green ones.
