Alt Ehrenberg: Hotels and accommodations

In connection with Alt Ehrenberg, the specific local references lead to Staré Křečany, Brtníky, Kopec and the Kyjovské Valley. A notable cultural landmark there is the Roman Catholic parish church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Staré Křečany: the monumental Baroque sacred building stands in the town center and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 3 May 1958.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk was completed in 1741. It has a so-called bread vault, which, according to the municipal development plan, is found in only four churches in the Czech Republic. A Stations of the Cross runs along the perimeter wall of the former cemetery by this church in the center of Staré Křečany.

In the district of Kopec stands the wrought-iron Kaufer Cross from 1804. It is decorated with depictions of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene painted on sheet metal; its pedestal is made of sandstone. The cross was restored in 2016. Also located in Kopec is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, built in 1809, with an altarpiece of the Virgin Mary. The column shrine with a statue of Saint Anthony of Padua in the district of Kopec was erected in memory of the fatal accident of the miller Johann Zimmer in a quarry in 1707.

Picturesque half-timbered houses and timber-framed houses have been preserved in all districts of Staré Křečany. They date predominantly from the 17th and 18th centuries and are richly clad in slate. During the Thirty Years' War, the Seven Years' War of 1756 and the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866, local residents hid in the surrounding area. In Brtníky, a preserved Stations of the Cross also leads to the restored Chapels of the Most Holy Trinity and the Holy Sepulchre on Křížový vrch.

Nature and climbing

Parts of the municipality of Staré Křečany lie on the western edge of České Švýcarsko National Park. In the area of the Kyjovské Valley and Brtníky, 472 climbing routes are registered. To protect rare breeding bird species, climbing is prohibited in the rear part of the Kyjovské Valley and in the valley of the Bílý potok from March to June.

Rocks and winter

The remains of the medieval rock castle of Brtnický hrádek, with a viewpoint, lie near Velký Pruský Tábor on the trail marked in green. Velký Pruský Tábor is a large rock overhang on the trail marked in green from Brtníky to the Kyjovské Valley.

The Brtnické ledopády are a winter attraction: several-meter-high ice formations of various shapes and colors form on rock overhangs.

Cycling routes and the Mandava

A 27 km cycling tour along the Mandava leads from Brtníky via Staré Křečany, Rumburk, Seifhennersdorf and Varnsdorf to Großschönau. It is suitable for road bikes, gravel bikes and e-bikes. The 34 km moderately difficult cycling route 211 passes through Staré Křečany and runs through the Šluknovský výběžek; mountain bikes and trekking bikes are recommended.

The 11 km moderately difficult cycling route 3032 begins in Brtníky, a district of Staré Křečany, leads via Kopec and the Kyjovské Valley to Kyjov, and is recommended for mountain bikes and trekking bikes. Ap Ranch Staré Křečany offers guided horse rentals.

The Mandava rises west of Staré Křečany at an elevation of 460 m; its source was renovated by the Klub českých turistů. At the source, there is a rest area with seating and a small spring along the cycling tour.
