Krabčice: Hotels and Accommodation

Krabčice lies at the foot of Říp Mountain, which holds a special historical significance as a national cultural monument. The wooded volcanic table mountain reaches 456 metres above sea level and rises 200 metres above the surrounding landscape.

Culture and History

At the summit of Říp stands the Romanesque rotunda “Rotunda sv. Jiří a sv. Vojtěcha”. It is a Christian church and continues to serve its original purpose. The tower is not an observation tower; only the ground floor is accessible to visitors.

The Protestant church is also part of the village’s architectural character. Its 40-metre-high tower is visible within a radius of up to 20 kilometres. The construction of the church, including its bells, was financed entirely through donations from members of the local congregation.

Karafiátův dům served as a Protestant orphanage from 1894 to 1952. The building is also associated with Jan Karafiát, the author of the 1866 children’s book “Broučci”.

Landscape and Nature

Říp shapes not only the landscape around Krabčice. As a wooded volcanic table mountain, it provides wildlife in the surrounding landscape with a natural refuge and serves as a nesting site for birds.

Several rocky viewpoints lie on its slopes. From there, partial views of the wider surroundings open up.

Paths to Říp

The Svatopluka Čecha footpath leads via Vesce to Říp Mountain.

Tradition and Market

The traditional Řípská pouť takes place every year on the occasion of the Feast of Saint George. The event features hundreds of stalls offering refreshments, handmade products and traditional sweets.
