The Naučná stezka městyse Měřín nature trail combines information about the history of Měřín with the nature in its surroundings. The circular route is just under 12 km long and can be completed on foot, by bicycle, or with a stroller. The nature trail provides information about silver mining in the Měřín area, protected plants and animals in the Balinka stream basin, and a silver hoard that was discovered in a barn.

Nature and Trails

A walk along the Černický potok stream near Valcha is highly recommended. Nearby is the 694 m-high Dědkovská hora peak, which belongs to the Arnolecké hory hills and is suitable for a classic hike. The forests around Měřín in the direction of Kamenička, Řehořov, and Jamné are considered a paradise for mushroom pickers.

Culture and History

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Měřín stands on Romanesque foundations. As a distinctive landmark with a tall tower and a Romanesque portal dating from the 12th century, it welcomes those arriving in Měřín from afar.

The first written mention of Měřín dates back to 1298. In the same year, Třebíč Monastery founded a provostry there for monks of the Benedictine order.
