Otín – Local History, Landscape and Trails

The historic zone of Otín follows the original road, now designated as Road II/349; the houses stand with their gable ends facing the road. The village is also home to the Otín bell tower, which is a registered immovable cultural monument. An image of the Madonna is located above its entrance.

Otín was first mentioned in written records in 1379. After the abolition of serfdom, the three historic parts of Otín were merged into one municipality. By the road near Smejkalova stodola stands a cross dating from 1856.

Summer pilgrimages to the Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Otín took place in 2023 and 2024. The annual Velikonoční hrkání begins and ends at the village chapel. On Good Friday, the procession passes through the village three times.

On April 30, 2022, a maypole decorated with a green wreath and colorful ribbons was traditionally erected in Otín. Following the maypole-raising ceremony, a witch-burning event organized by SDH Otín took place.

The municipal area of Otín is characterized by rounded ridges, elongated slopes and broad valleys along the headwaters of watercourses. A small village pond is located on the village square. The mountains of Panský kopec, Hradiště, Dědkovská hora and Řehořovský vrch lie in the surroundings of Otín.

This provides both the immediately recognizable village setting on the village square and the shaped landscape of ridges, slopes and valleys as spatial reference points. The named mountains complement this description with individual landscape features in the surrounding area, while the village pond provides a specific point of reference within the village.

From Otín, a local road leads behind the village and then continues as a field path to the Pokornův Cross. The hiking route from Měřín via Křekovec and Frankův Zhořec to Otín is 10.5 kilometers long. It follows field and forest paths to the Žďárka stream and Hájenci Křekovec. A cycle route also passes through the municipal area of Otín.

The trail information shows different spatial connections: the route to the Pokornův Cross starts in the village, while the route from Měřín via Křekovec and Frankův Zhořec to Otín names these places as further stops along its course. At 10.5 kilometers, with field and forest paths as well as the named points of the Žďárka stream and Hájenci Křekovec, it contains several clearly distinguishable orientation elements. The cycle route runs through the municipal area of Otín.
