Herálec: Hotels and Accommodation

The first written mention of Herálec dates from 1226. The town combines a long history with tangible evidence related to the church, château, crafts and historic architectural forms.

Culture

Among the notable works of art are the wayside shrines on the road to the new cemetery behind Herálec. They date from 1767, were created by an unknown artist and are a valuable example of folk Baroque. The 1767 wayside shrines at the new cemetery in Herálec were restored to their original form and using their original technical execution.

The present-day Church of St Bartholomew was solemnly consecrated on 24 October 1880 by the Bishop of Hradec Králové, Josef Hais. In the small park in front of the church stands a Baroque statue of Saint Florian from 1740.

Chateau Herálec also reflects several historical building phases: its walls date from the 13th century, and in 1861 it was remodelled in the Gothic Revival style by the architect B. Waschmann. From 2009 to August 2011, comprehensive heritage and historical reconstruction was carried out. After Herálec was sold in 1601, Kryštof Karel z Roupova had the château remodelled over the following decades into a three-winged, single-storey building with round towers.

The château was prepared for use as a luxurious five-star boutique hotel and Spa by L’Occitane. Hotel Chateau Herálec has a swimming pool beneath historic vaults in the former stables of the château.

History

The predecessor of the present-day Church of St Bartholomew dates from the 13th century. Around 1280, it was fortified and protected by a moat or pond.

The town’s economic history includes the first glassworks, which was established in Herálec in 1604. In the 18th century, Herálec was known for producing table and mirror glass. There is also a historic granary and manorial grain store from 1726.
