Jilem: Hotels and Accommodation

The first written mention of the Jilemská tvrz dates from 1536. At that time, the Jilemská tvrz stood between the present-day Nohavka and Židovná ponds, which provided it with a certain degree of protection. After the First World War, the site of the former Jilemská tvrz was levelled; rusty iron, horseshoes and fragments of walls were found there. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is located in Jilem, in the cadastral area of Jilem u Sedletína.

Most of the cadastral area of Jilem is drained via the Jiříkovský stream into the Sázavka and onward into the Sázava. Gneiss lies beneath the topsoil, with clay resting on it; in places exposed to the wind, the gneiss is covered with sand and a thin layer of topsoil. After the retreat of the last Ice Age, mixed forests with conifers, birches, elms and beech trees grew in Jilem about 10,000 years ago; alders became established along the watercourses.

The 226-kilometre, red-marked Maříž–Golčův Jeníkov bridleway passes through Jilem.
