Landscape and Bodies of Water

The cadastral area of Podmoky includes three larger ponds: Starý, Nový and Rousínov. Two of them are suitable for swimming. The Brslenka stream flows through Podmoky; it is formed by the upper course of the Čáslavka and the Hluboký potok and flows into the Doubrava.

The privately owned Rousínov pond is located by a mill. Cabins stand on its dam and are used for summer camps. Fishing in the 451 099 Nový rybník fishing grounds is prohibited until further notice due to fish mortality. On 1 April 2025, however, sport fishing began at Nový rybník in the cadastral area of Podmoky near Golčův Jeníkov.

History and Buildings

Historical evidence includes Hrádek u Podmok: well-preserved remains of a small castle survive there on a spur above a stream. Hrádek u Podmok is dated to the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries.

The first written mention of Podmoky dates from 1360; at that time, the settlement was mentioned in historical sources as part of the Golčův Jeníkov estate. During excavation work for the foundation of a barn, coins from the time of Václav II were discovered at house number 82 in 1912. Bracteates, called “braktáče” in Czech, from the time of Přemysl Otakar II were also found in Podmoky. These coins were minted between 1193 and 1278.

The Church of Our Lady in Podmoky was built in 1908 and renovated in 1981. Podmoky is also home to the branch church of the Name of the Virgin Mary. At its original location stands a brick bell tower built in 1835.

Animals and Regional Experiences

At the U Hajdúchů family farm, visitors can get up close to Huacaya alpacas and pet them. The visitor enclosures are home to alpacas, goats, Kunekune pigs, Belgian Giant rabbits, and waterfowl and poultry. The family farm also produces and sells honey from its own beehives.
