Loukov: Hotels and Accommodations

The Church of St. Margaret stands in Loukov on the site of the now-vanished village of Loukov; it was first documented in 1352.

History and Culture

The three Podlipnické churches – St. Martin in Dolní Město, St. George in Řečice, and St. Margaret in Loukov – date from the 14th century and are particularly known for the large number of preserved medieval wall paintings. “Loukov – Church of St. Margaret” is designated as an archaeological site.

Cycling Routes

The “In the Footsteps of Gothic” cycling route leads to the Church of St. Margaret in Loukov. It is relatively easy and runs mostly along roads; at the same time, it offers long, gradual descents and picturesque views across the landscape.

The “Melechov and Podlipnicko” cycling route is 37.9 km long, has 608 metres of elevation gain, and is highly difficult. It combines roads with field and forest tracks, gravel sections, and trails and leads along the edge of the forest to the old Gothic Church of St. Margaret, which commemorates the now-vanished village of Loukov.

Landscape and Nature

In the wider regional surroundings of Loukov lies Melechov Nature Park; the cadastral area of Loukov also belongs to it. Established in 1995, the nature park protects an area of around 32 km² around Melechov, including Stvořidla – to protect the typical landscape character as well as landscape and natural values, several protected plant and animal species, the typical landscape character of Vysočina, important landscape features, and ecologically stabilising structures.
