Hojkov: Hotels and accommodation

About 600 m south of Hojkov lies the Hojkovské rašeliniště, a national nature monument containing a remnant of peat bog and a swampy woodland.

Nature and landscape

The Hojkovské rašeliniště is one of the oldest peat bogs in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. It was designated a national nature monument in 1982. The bog is an important refuge for animals inhabiting aquatic, wetland and peatland habitats. Several amphibian species regularly occur in its pools, including the Alpine newt; the moorland meadows are home to the common adder.

Pod Mešnicí is a protected former pasture area approximately 1.3 km southwest of Hojkov. It protects short-grass, drought-loving plant communities containing the critically endangered chamomile-leaved moonwort.

The mountains of “Březina” and “Přední skála” are located in the immediate vicinity of Hojkov. The mountains of “Popický vrch” and “Havlův kopec” are also located in the surrounding area.

History and culture

Hojkov was probably founded towards the end of the 13th century during the colonization of the region by the Diocese of Prague. The original settlement had the form of a circular village; its outer layout can still be recognized at houses No. 1–21.

In the wider regional surroundings of Hojkov lies the castle named “Roštejn [Doupě] castle outlook t.”. The ruins of “Janštejn” are located in the surrounding area, while the ruins of “Orlík” and the “Želivský Kláštor” monastery are located in the wider regional surroundings.

Routes

Cycle route 1 follows a circular course from Cejle via Klepák, Mirošov, Boršov, Hojkov and Čeřínek back to Cejle. The Čeřínek educational trail is 6 km long, has 14 stops and can be used on foot or by bicycle.
