Castrov: Hotels and Accommodation

Castrov is home to the parish church of St. Nicholas, a two-storey Art Nouveau school, two wayside shrines, the parish house with farmyard, and a memorial to those who fell in the First World War.

Culture and History

The parish church of St. Nicholas is the parish church of Častrov and is protected as a cultural monument; its register number is ÚSKP 26993/3-2964. It was founded around 1350, has a Gothic core, and was remodelled in the Baroque period. Unusually arranged clocks stand out on the onion dome of its tower.

The school in Častrov is a two-storey Art Nouveau building from 1912–1913. Its floor plan is T-shaped, with the central wing projecting into the garden. Above the central risalit gable is a figurative relief depicting two seated young women, a book, and children; an owl relief is mounted in the tympanum of the entrance portal.

The parish house with farmyard in Častrov is a single-storey classical building near the church dating from around 1800. It has a mansard roof and adjoining farm buildings.

The Park u kostela in Častrov is a registered significant landscape element and is subject to enhanced protection under the municipal development plan.

Religious Symbols and Remembrance

The wayside shrine in Častrov is a Late Gothic granite monument dating from around 1500. Its slender lantern chapel, open on three sides, is crowned by a pyramidal roof with a substantial stone cross and features so-called ogee arches.

In the south of the municipality of Častrov stands a Baroque stone wayside shrine with a column featuring entasis on a cuboid base. Its cushion capital supports a prismatic chapel with an illegible Czech inscription.

The memorial to those who fell in the First World War was handed over to the citizens on 5 July 1923. Since then, the so-called Národní–letní pouť has been held in Častrov on the first Sunday in August.
