Lukavec: Hotels and Accommodation

In Lukavec, architectural history, literature and trails come together at several historic sites. Lukavec Chateau is a late Renaissance four-wing building with an arcaded courtyard, built on the site of a former Gothic fortress. It is surrounded by an extensive English landscape park with ponds and a Neoclassical pavilion where the poet Antonín Sova grew up. Sova spent his childhood and youth in Lukavec and the surrounding countryside; he also attended primary school there.

Culture

The originally Gothic Church of St. Wenceslas was rebuilt as a larger Baroque church in 1765. Together with the adjacent Gothic-Renaissance fortress, the late Baroque vicarage, the hospital and the Neo-Gothic tomb of the Lincker and Lilgenau families, it forms an interesting heritage zone.

The Antonín Sova Memorial House contains a permanent exhibition on the poet’s life and work. The memorial house was reconstructed and reopened to the public in July 2004.

In the freely accessible chateau park belonging to the market town of Lukavec stands Hříbek, a hexagonal, two-storey Neoclassical pavilion built near the chateau towards the end of the 18th century. The exhibition includes historical photographs and documents, as well as an almost true-to-original replica of an Art Nouveau dress belonging to Antonín Sova’s wife Marie.

History

The Jewish cemetery in Lukavec was established no later than before 1724 and contains approximately 100 tombstones; the oldest surviving one dates from 1725. The cemetery is freely accessible. At the southeastern edge of the older section is a restored, simple stone mortuary.

The brick-built Baroque-style wayside shrines of St. Roch stand southwest of Lukavec in open countryside at the site of a former Chapel of St. Roch. Following restoration in 2010, their niches were fitted with toughened glass panels featuring printed black text about the saint, Lukavec and the history of the structure.

Trails

The Stations of the Cross in Lukavec were completely restored in 2009; during the restoration, the original slender granite columns were replaced with columns also made of granite but more massive. The route follows a local road in the southwest of Lukavec along the edge of the chateau park and offers benches for resting along the way. The Stations of the Cross consist of fourteen stations and end at the wayside shrines of St. Roch.

The Sovova Educational Trail leads from Pacov through the municipality of Bratřice and over Mount Stražiště to Lukavec, and from there continues to Načeradec and Velký Blaník. The trail is 12 km long, takes approximately 2 to 5 hours and includes four historically themed stations. It is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists.
