Nature and trails

The Žirov Loop Trail can be extended near Žirov via Zachotín, Mysletín, Dudín, Polánky, Vyskytná, Branišov, Kamenicko, and Horní Strměchy. The approach to Žirov along the Žirov Loop Trail offers views of the summit of Strážiště and the Křemešník massif.

Žirov is also a waypoint on the 39 km cycling loop from Pelhřimov via Křemešník and back to Pelhřimov. A blue cycle route from Křemešník to Mladé Bříště and Humpolec roughly follows the medieval road that passed Žirov.

The Kladiny pond system below Žirov dates back to the 16th century: Dolní Kladina Pond was created in 1545 and Horní Kladina Pond in 1559. The Kladinský potok is fed by the Kladiny ponds. The landscape around Žirov has been revitalized particularly since around 2010 through the restoration of ponds.

History

Žirov was probably founded in the 13th century on the edge of the Červená Řečice estate belonging to the Prague bishopric.

Světničkův mlýn was a groat mill and operated until the mid-20th century. Machkův mlýn, formerly called Lhotecký mlýn and later Pilařův mlýn, was also known as mlýn Pilař. Originally, it was an archbishop's mill below Dolní Kladina Pond; it operated until 1960.

Vlčinec Mill was probably established in the first half of the 18th century. It has a preserved wooden mill building constructed using the log-building method and is the last mill along the Kladinský potok before it joins the Jankovský.

Culture

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in Žirov was built in 1929. Marian devotions are held in the chapel in May and October.

More than ten cast-iron crosses stand in the cadastral area of Žirov. Many of these cast-iron crosses probably replaced older wooden crosses.
